A bigger frame for fibre
World of Threads Festival is running in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, from 23 September 2026 to 17 January 2027. The organiser describes an international display of contemporary fibre and textile art at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre. Admission is free. This is not a crochet-only festival, and it is a long way from Manchester.
There is an important break in the published schedule: it closes from 23 December to 1 January and reopens on 2 January. A broad date range on a calendar does not mean uninterrupted opening.
You can look like a maker
When you see textile art, try noticing what the material is doing before asking whether you could make the same thing. Does it hang, curl, gather, stretch or make a shadow? Is the piece small enough to hold, or does it change how a room feels? Those are useful questions even if your next crochet project is a tiny square.
The interesting part is not to turn someone else’s artwork into your pattern. It is to discover a new possibility for your own experiments: an open space in a fabric, a contrast between thick and thin, or a colour placed somewhere surprising.
An idea for your project notebook
Draw three very simple boxes. In one, write a material you know. In the next, write a movement such as curl or fold. In the last, write a feeling or memory. Use the combination as a starting question for your own small sample, rather than copying the shape of a featured artwork.
If you are planning a real visit, use the festival’s own hours, access information and holiday notice. Our original cover is an editorial illustration; no exhibition photographs or artists’ designs have been reproduced.
