A yarn-festival diary with room to breathe

Harrogate, Farnham, Tunbridge Wells and Bristol: four dates to explore, without turning a creative day into a shopping race.

Original reporting notes. A little curiosity goes a long way.

Colour, texture & a little imagination

A few dates, not an endless must-do list

  • 19–22 November 2026: Knit + Stitch at Harrogate Convention Centre combines several textile crafts, galleries and hands-on activities. Check which crochet sessions are actually in the programme.
  • 12–14 February 2027: unravel at Farnham Maltings has a three-day February edition with exhibitions, talks and bookable workshops.
  • 27–28 February 2027: Yarnival at The Amelia Scott has confirmed a two-day return. The venue says further programme details are still to come.
  • 22–23 May 2027: The Big Flock is announced for UWE Enterprise Park in Bristol. It is commercially organised; its event page gives the next ticket-sale information.

What would make the day worthwhile for you?

Choose one purpose before comparing tickets. You might want to watch a demonstration, try an unfamiliar technique, see textile art or simply spend time with a friend who enjoys making. Those are different kinds of day. A huge marketplace is not automatically the best match for someone who wants a quiet lesson.

Read workshop descriptions for the skills assumed. “Confident beginner” usually means you can already make and count some basic stitches, rather than someone who has never held a hook. Ask the teacher if you are unsure; a suitable class is more useful than an impressive-sounding title.

Leave space in the plan

Compare admission, workshop fees, travel and any materials you must bring. Check accessibility and rules for younger visitors. Where a programme is still being announced, wait for the actual session details rather than booking around an imagined class.

Bring a small notebook for your own ideas, and ask before taking pictures of someone else’s work. You do not have to fill every hour. One useful thing learned and a comfortable journey home can be a very good craft day.

A couple of useful words

Demonstration
Someone shows how a technique works; it is not necessarily a hands-on class.
