An exhibition that is open now
Handmade in Farnham is scheduled at the Museum of Farnham from 30 September 2026 to 27 March 2027. It brings several crafts into the same story of local making. The Knitting & Crochet Guild highlights member Emma Vining’s Ammonoid Shawl in the exhibition. That shawl is knitting, not crochet: related yarn crafts are not interchangeable.
The published usual opening is Wednesday to Saturday, 10am–4pm, with holiday exceptions. Check the museum’s latest visiting information before travelling; an exhibition running for several months is not necessarily open every day.
A different show, already finished
Sunny Bank Mills’ For the Love of Textiles ran from 4 April to 28 June 2026. It is not an upcoming autumn event. Its archive describes a connection between textiles, relationships and meaningful objects. We are looking back at that idea, not suggesting readers can still visit the finished exhibition.
It raises a lovely question for our own making: why do we keep some handmade things? Perhaps a scarf marks the first time you finished a project, or a repaired square reminds you who helped. The meaning does not depend on the object being perfectly neat.
Keep a little record of your own
Try adding a short project note when you finish something: when you made it, the yarn you used, one thing you learned and who it was for. If it was your own design, keep the sketches too. Later, those notes can be more useful than a photograph with no explanation.
Looking at an exhibition is a way to ask better questions about making. It is not permission to copy a designer’s pattern, chart or photographs. The artwork on this story is our own illustration, not a picture of either exhibition.
