The confirmed news, without the old deadline
Channel 4 announced a second series of Game of Wool on 16 March 2026, with Hello Halo producing and Tom Daley returning as host. Its announcement describes a knitting competition. The show’s own website now says casting for series two is closed. An older Guild item saying applications are open should not be treated as a fresh opportunity.
We are not announcing a new application window or inventing a transmission date. Use the broadcaster and programme’s own current information for those details.
Knitting and crochet can be neighbours
It is fun to see a yarn craft treated as something inventive and exciting. Knitting normally builds a fabric with needles; crochet uses a hook to make and draw loops through other loops. They share materials and some planning skills, but a knitting challenge is not automatically a crochet tutorial.
What can cross over is the habit of looking carefully. Notice how makers explain a colour choice, change a plan after a mistake, or turn an idea into a usable shape. You can bring that curiosity to your own craft without needing to copy a television project.
Watch the making, not just the clock
A competition is edited around time limits and big reveals. Your practice does not need either. A short row that helps you understand an edge stitch can be a better evening’s result than rushing a complicated garment.
If a programme makes you want to try crochet, start with our first-kit and first-loop guides. You can be interested in yarn without already knowing every stitch name or owning a mountain of supplies.
