Free Pattern: Tiny Amigurumi Octopus ๐Ÿ™

This little octopus is one of the very first amigurumi I ever made โ€” and I still love it. He's quick, beginner-friendly, and incredibly squishable. ๐Ÿ’œ

What you'll need

  • Worsted-weight cotton yarn in a fun colour (about 50g)
  • A 3.5mm crochet hook
  • Stuffing (polyester fibrefill)
  • Two 6mm safety eyes (or embroider with black thread)
  • Yarn needle & stitch marker

Abbreviations

  • MR โ€” magic ring
  • sc โ€” single crochet
  • inc โ€” increase (2 sc in same stitch)
  • dec โ€” decrease (invisible decrease recommended)
  • ch โ€” chain
  • sl st โ€” slip stitch
  • ( )x6 โ€” repeat 6 times

The head & body

Worked in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker!

  1. 6 sc in MR (6)
  2. (inc) x6 (12)
  3. (sc, inc) x6 (18)
  4. (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)
  5. (3 sc, inc) x6 (30)
  6. Rounds 6โ€“10: sc in each st (30)
  7. Attach safety eyes between rounds 6 and 7, about 5 stitches apart.
  8. (3 sc, dec) x6 (24)
  9. Start stuffing firmly.
  10. (2 sc, dec) x6 (18)
  11. (sc, dec) x6 (12). Stuff more.
  12. (dec) x6 (6). Cut yarn, weave through remaining loops and pull tight to close.

The legs (make 8)

  1. Chain 12.
  2. Starting from the second chain from the hook, sl st in each chain (11 sl st). The leg should curl up naturally โ€” that's the magic!
  3. Leave a long tail to sew onto the body.

Assembly

Arrange the 8 legs evenly around the bottom of the body and sew them on with the yarn needle. Embroider a tiny smile with pink thread.

Tip: Stuff your octopus more than you think you should. Amigurumi looks best when it's nice and firm.

Finished!

Give him a name, take a picture, and send it to me โ€” I'd love to see your version ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’œ
