Big crochet trips: convention, retreat or something closer to home?

Geelong, Kraków and Croatia have announced crochet plans for 2027. Here is how their very different formats compare.

Original reporting notes. A little curiosity goes a long way.

Colour, texture & a little imagination

A convention is not the same as a holiday

Crochet Guild Australia has confirmed its convention for 4–6 June 2027 at Deakin University’s Waterfront Campus in Geelong. A convention brings a programme of people and activities together in one place. Details are still developing; confirmed dates do not mean every workshop can already be booked.

A retreat or organised craft holiday is different: accommodation, travel choices and excursions can be part of a commercial package. Compare what is actually included rather than judging two trips by their headline price.

Two commercial trips, with an important tutor correction

Stitchtopia advertises a Kraków knitting or crochet retreat departing 19 March 2027, with Anna Nikipirowicz and three half-day workshops. There are knitting and crochet project versions. Confirm the current itinerary and inclusions with the operator; a holiday title is not a separate guarantee about public market opening dates.

For Croatia, the operator’s dated 12–19 May 2027 departure names Mandy Cameron. Jane Crowfoot is listed for a different October departure, not as a second May tutor. The May workshop information expects basic stitch skills and the ability to follow a written pattern.

A calm comparison checklist

  • Check whether flights, transfers, room supplements, meals and excursions are included in your particular option.
  • Read the current cancellation terms and any travel, access or age requirements directly with the organiser.
  • Ask about the pace and skill level of the actual workshops.
  • Make sure everyone travelling wants that sort of trip, rather than only liking the project photograph.

A big trip is one way to enjoy crochet, not the next level you have to unlock. A local library table or an online CAL can give you shared making time too. These are independent listings: Crochet By Micky does not take bookings, receive affiliate commission or reproduce the tutors’ projects.
